Oskar Wojciechowski & Karolina Holody
Behind Karolina Holody’s graceful presence on the dance floor is truly a person who is deeply devoted to the art of dance. Karolina is one of the most talented dancers on the dance floor today and her achievements are a testament to the fact that the combination of hard work and dedication is a recipe for success.
Karolina has been perfecting her dancing for over 15 years. Although she was a self proclaimed “latin diva” when she was just beginning her competitive dance career, she has become one of the leading women in the ballroom category. Originally Karolina started dancing in Toronto, Canada, where she was the Canadian Juvenile Latin Champion, Junior Latin Champion, Junior Ballroom Champion, and the Junior 10 Dance Champion. At the young age of 15, she decided to take the next step in her dance career and move to New York City to train with the best coaches in the world. Although she struggled to find a middle ground between home in Canada and New York, through sheer perseverance and determination she quickly rose to the top of the ranks in a surprisingly young age.
At the same time, Oskar Wojciechowski was staring to establish himself within the competitive dance circuit. Oskar’s beginnings were similar to Karolina’s; he began dancing at the age of 11 in a dance studio across the street from his home. Instead of playing a variety of sports, most of his time was spent in dance classes practicing his routines and technique. After a few years he became the United States National Junior Ballroom Champion and started competing internationally. Soon he was dancing in a older age division where he continued his success and became the Youth National Ballroom Champion.
Soon after, both Karolina and Oskar started seeing each other at competitions across North America and it became a mutual decision that they should continue their success. It quickly became clear that they made a wise decision as only a few months of dancing together they won the United States National Dancesport Championships in Youth Ballroom and Youth 10 Dance, and as a result became the US representatives to the Youth Dancesport World Championships in Spain.
Oskar and Karolina continued to accumulate achievements as their dancing matured and they progressed into more prestigious competitions. As they turned 18 they began to compete in the Under 21 age category, where they were undefeated, and became consecutive National Under 21 Ballroom Dancesport Champions. Throughout this period of time Oskar and Karolina also began competing in the Adult Championship category, and they were ecstatic when they won the National Dancesport Championships in both the Adult and Under 21 age categories. This crucial victory inspired Oskar and Karolina to continue working hard, and they were determined more than ever to bring home triumphs from abroad. They set their eyes on the Blackpool Dance Festival; the oldest, most prestigious dance competition in the world, where thousands of spectators and competitors descend to watch and take part of the best dancing in the world.
Oskar and Karolina trained vigorously and spent hundreds of hours refining their skills, and preparing both physically and mentally. When they arrived in Blackpool for the competition, they persevered through pressure and the onslaught of competitors, to come out victorious in the Rising Star Ballroom Championships. But Oskar and Karolina were not done yet. They still had one more category to compete in and the weight of what might happen dawned on them. They knew that no couple ever in the history of the Blackpool Dance Festival took first in the Rising Star and Under 21 Championships in the same year. With the hopes of making history, Oskar and Karolina blasted through the rounds of couples, and to the cheers of the enthusiastic audience won and cemented their names in the history books.
